THE HAUNTED AND THE UNHOMELY

The Golem (1921) features the home of Rabbi Loew, the creator of the Golem. His house is organic in shape and improperly lit, it feels almost alive, and it is hard to understand the space. There are familiar objects like the staircase, but it appears to resemble a womb and has no safety rail. These almost familiar sites in a strange setting make us uneasy and creates a haunted feel to the home.
